What is The Gospel?

The Bible tells us that the Gospel (or good news) is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes…(Romans 1:16).

Any other power, source, or scheme–irregardless of the motives and intentions–is just simply inadequate. God established the power unto salvation–the Gospel.

Hence, the “bad news” is that every person has sinned and falls short of God’s glory. We could never reach God on our own and we could never undo our offenses against God. Therefore, God has to step in and act on behalf of our hopeless and helpless status. The Good News!

So here is the Gospel, “Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, He was buried and rose again (i.e. was resurrected) the third day.”

Do you believe this for yourself? The Gospel is only “good news” to those who believe because they have access to the power of God unto salvation. The death of Jesus Christ is both necessary for the sinner unable to save himself or herself and it is sufficient to redeem the worst of sinners from the penalty of all their sins–past, present, and future.

So what is faith in God? It is trusting this good news that Jesus Christ died in your place, paid the penalty of your sins, and came back to life three days later.
